These are from an era when your ribbon was as important as your hat. And everyone wore hats.
They, literally, don’t make ribbons like these anymore. I can’t even find a mill that is able to make custom reproductions.
As far as I know, what I have is all there is. All there is in the known universe. When it’s gone, it’s gone.
I’ve had many of these ribbons for more than twenty years, without ever offering them on my website. I enjoy having them. Okay, you’re right. It’s time to share.
Finally –– I am opening the door to my Vintage Ribbons Vault. Welcome.
Getting the colors right is tricky. I’m not great with Photoshop. Your screen will be different than mine. But they should be close.
Most of the ribbons look better in person than in my photos.
To order one of the vintage ribbons on this page, please write down the individual ribbon ID/ordering number, and enter it on the Order Page when you are checking out. You will not be charged at this time. When I receive your order, I will confirm your ribbon choice then add the ribbon charge.
Wide Ribbons Back in the Olden Days of the 1930s and 1940s wider ribbons were much more popular than they are today. The hats were taller. The ribbons were wider. 1 7/16 and 1 5/8 inches are about the widest that work well on the Classic Fedora, Montego Bay, Key Largo. The wider ribbons 1 3/4 inches work better with Havana, Gatsby, Optimo.
Maybe you’re a Michigan alum. If so, might be better if you don’t admit it. Go Buckeyes! Nice ribbon though. Of course, it would my last choice for a personal hat.
Width:1 3/8 inches Price: $150I love the ribbons with these raised “lines” or “stripes.” Almost like they are embossed. This is a wide ribbon. Wide ribbons work better with Havana and Gatsby fedoras, Homburg, Optimo.
Width: 1 5/8 inches Price: $350Five centred “embossed stripes” with “underlines” to emphasize them.
